Lactobacillus acidophilus - один з видів бактерій роду Lactobacillus. Ця бактерія використовується в промисловості спільно з Streptococcus salivarius і Lactobacillus delbrueckii ssp. bulgaricus для виготовлення ацидофилина та інших ацидофільних напоїв.
Lactobacillus acidophilus отримали своє родове назва від лат. lacto- - «молоко» і bacillus - «паличка», і видову назву від acidum - «кислота» і «philus» - «любити». Ця бактерія виживає в більш кислих середовищах, ніж інші види (pH 4-5 і менше) і оптимально росте при температурах близько 30 градусів Цельсія. L. acidophilus природно зустрічається в травному тракті і вагіні людини і деяких інших ссавців.
L. acidophilus ферментує лактозу до молочної кислоти. подібно до багатьох інших (хоча і не всім) молочнокислим бактеріям. Деякі родинні види виробляють етанол. діоксид вуглецю і оцтову кислоту. однак L. acidophilus є гомоферментативного організмом, який виробляє тільки молочну кислоту. Як і більшість бактерій, L. acidophilus можуть бути вбиті нагріванням, вологістю або прямим сонячним світлом.
медичне застосування
Ацидофільні лактобактерії можуть застосовуватися в якості лікарських засобів - пробіотиків. ВУкаіни зареєстровано кілька торгових марок лікарських препаратів, основною діючою речовиною яких є культура даних бактерій: «Ацилакт», «Біобактон», «Лактобактерин», «Нормобакт» [1]. «Екофемін».
Фармакологічна дія даних коштів обумовлено продукується живими лактобактеріями молочною кислотою, яка забезпечує низьку кислотність середовища і створює несприятливі умови для життєдіяльності кіслоточувствітельних патогенних і умовно-патогенних бактерій (стафілококи, протеї, ентеропатогенні кишкові палички).
