Dogs participate in a bunch of Russian expressions and idioms. Today we'll learn some of them and a couple of other expression on the way.

Звідки пішла сьогоднішня наше вираз "де собака порилася" я, напевно, розповідати не буду, так як жодна зі знайдених мною версій не здалася мені "задовільно переконливою". Тому ми перейдемо відразу до суті і прикладів.

I probably will not tell you where our today's expression is coming from as none of the versions I found did not seem to me "satisfactorily convincing". Therefore, we will go directly to its meaning and examples.

Насправді вираз звучить по-іншому, а саме: "де собака зарита". А означає воно причину, мотив, привід, суть питання. наприклад:

In fact, the expression sounds differently: "where the dog is buried". It means "reason, motive, the essence of the matter". For example:

Я все ніяк не могла зреагувати. як він примудряється так швидко переміщатися. А знаєте, де собака заритий? Виявляється, у нього є брат-близнюк!

I could never understand how he manages to travel so fast. Do you know where the dog was buried? It turns out that he has a twin brother!

"Де собака порилася" - це вже змінений нашими сучасниками варіант. Чи був в цьому прихований сенс, або просто звучало прикольно. не знаю. Але тим не менше фраза набула додаткову забарвлення: де собака порилася, звідти і смердить. Тобто там і є причина.

"Where the dog has dug" is a changed by our contemporaries option. Whether there was a hidden meaning in this, or simply sounded cool, I do not know. But nevertheless the phrase acquired an additional color: where the dog has dug, from there it stinks. I.e. the reason is there.

Практично ідентичний зміст у вираження "звідки ноги ростуть". наприклад:

Almost identical meaning has the expression "from where the legs grow". For example:

Ніхто не знає, звідки у його грошей ноги ростуть. Але витрачає він дуже багато, набагато більше, ніж заробляє.

Nobody knows from where his money's legs grow (where his money is coming from). But he spends a lot, much more than he earns.

- "Собаку з'їсти на чому-небудь" - тобто придбати значний досвід в чому-небудь:

- "To eat a dog on something" - i.e. to gain an impressive experience in something:

Він на цих справах собаку з'їв, краще за нього ти фахівця не знайдеш.

He ate a dog on these things, you can not find a specialist better than him.

- "навішати всіх собак" - тобто звинуватити кого-небудь у чому-небудь ...

- "To hang all the dogs" - i.e. to blame somebody in something ...

Ви накосячілі, а на мене з-за вас всіх собак навішали!

You messed up, but I got all the dogs hung on me!

"Накосячіть" означає наробити помилок, зіпсувати що-небудь.

"Накосячіть" (to mess up) means to make mistakes, ruin or spoil something.

Також ми говоримо "злий, як собака" і "голодний, як собака". Мається на увазі як би "вищий ступінь агресивності або голоду, яку може мати людина".

We also say "angry like a dog" and "hungry like a dog". It sort of implies "the highest degree of anger or hunger that a person can experience".
